SQUAW VALLEY, California (Post Times News)--The Ski Corp. has hired Tom Richards as its first terrain park director. Though some of the world's top freestylers have been pictured at Squaw, the resort remains most known for its natural terrain. So Ski Corp. lingered on whether investment into a worldclass terrain park was worth it. The verdict is in, Squaw has decided to invest and began by hiring Richards.
Richards was a fixture in Heavenly’s terrain park operations for over 10 years. There he helped Heavenly's program grow from the ground up, literally. His vision drew successful events to the lake Tahoe resort, notably, the iconic South Shore Soldiers Snowboard Camp, which he served as the camp’s lead park builder since its inaugural session four years ago.
Richards represents Squaw Valley’s overall heightened devotion to terrain parks. In his first month working at Squaw, he repaired Squaw's existing box/rail features and produced the first of many new features, including a wall ride and a box/rail stair-set feature. As for jumps, a brand new Park Bully means Richards and the other park builders will be more equipped than ever. “Squaw Valley is famous for natural terrain,” says Richards. “My goal is to bring that same esteem to the mountain’s man-made terrain.”
