SNOWBIRD, UTAH (Post Time News)–The Snowbird Renaissance Center will host a fundraiser for the SuperSherpas Mount Everest Expedition, Friday, March 23, at the Cliff Lodge at Snowbird.
Apa Sherpa, the world record holder with 16 Mount Everest ascents, and Lhakpa Gelu Sherpa, who has summitted Mount Everest 12 times and holds the record time of 10 hours, 56 minutes, 46 seconds, are joining together to make a summit attempt this spring. The summit team will be comprised of the two record holders along with four other Nepali Sherpas, with a combined 50 ascents of Everest.
The climb is designed to highlight the role of the Sherpas and the Nepali people since the historic summit of Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa in 1953.
The SuperSherpas event includes a fundraiser at the Cliff Lodge beginning at 6 p.m. with an auction and reception. The auction will include items ranging from traditional Nepali cooking classes to a three-week Khumbu Trek with Apa as the guide. Both Apa and Lhakpa will make presentations and answer questions.
A ticket to the event is $100. For reservations and information on tickets, call (801) 933-2147. For information about the expedition, visit www.supersherpas.com.
